Halloween Traffic Safety Campaign
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to drive sober, especially if planning on attending a Halloween gathering. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in a traffic safety campaign from October 16 – November 1, 2021. The campaign will focus on identifying and arresting those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “Please remember, young children take to the sidewalks and are often crossing roadways during trick-or-treating. It would be a tragedy if a child were struck by an impaired or distracted driver. I cannot emphasize it enough, drive sober and keep the phone away while operating a vehicle.”
Each year throughout Illinois, hundreds die in impaired-driving crashes, while others face the ramifications of a DUI, including jail time, loss of license, and thousands of dollars spent on attorney’s fees, fines and lost wages.
The Halloween enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
